Ilario Garbani (1960, Vergeletto)
He discovered the world of music at the age of 11 due to the influence of to Aldo Giroldi, a man of great sensitivity and exceptional talent who was, at the time, a music teacher in the junior high schools of the Locarno area. Garbani then began to study the recorder and later, as a student at the teachers'college with Professor Graziella Beroggi, he perfected his skills as a flutist In 1976 Garbani began the self-study of the accordion.
From 1980 to 1992 he carried out ethnic-musical research in Onsernone Valley that culminated in 1992 with the publication of the songbook Canzoniere della Mea d'Ora, the name of the musical group he founded with Mauro Garbani .The group played in international concerts and published the disc "In miezz al camp" in 1987.
Garbani is a school teacher. From 1991 to 1994 he cooperated with the "Verzasca Valley Folk Music Group" coordinating and arranging for the recording of "Il canto di una valle", published in 1993.
His love for the piva is deeply rooted and stems from in the research done on traditional music and songs of the Onsernone Valley where the instrument is a faint memory whispered by a few elderly people. Following this line, Garbani gradually perfected his study of the instrument thanks to the reconstruction by Urs Glauser due to the fresco in the Maggia church. Garbani also studied the baghét, the Bergamo piva, with Walter Biella. Garbani is presently studying the French bagpipes with Gabriele Coltri in Milan and the Molise zampogna with Piero Ricci from Isernia. He often performs in duo with other pipers, especially at Christmas time.
