graph The Mea d'ora songbook

The songbook was introduced as a follow up to the disc "In miezz al camp" (1987) presented by the group Mea d'Ora which was active from 1983 to 1991 in Switzerland and abroad. The following musicians alternated as members and helped spread the Mea d'Ora repertoire: Mauro Garbani, Ilario Garbani Marcantini, Patrizio Colto, Barbara Bollin, Gabriele Martini, and Rolando Gruetter. The songbook is the result of ten years' research. Preliminary results were published in the bimonthly magazine "La voce onsernonese", edited by Pro Onsernone. The songbook stems from the need to share the results of the research I did with a large number of people on the oral patrimony of the Onsernone Valley. The publication of a music book offers material to people interested in making music: schools, choirs, groups, bands, etc. The disc therefore is suitable for listening but not necessarily for performance. What is really important is not the fact that these songs are from Onsernone or Ticino, but the way in which we collected the songs.

Let's learn to play the Molise key zampogna. A method to be also used for the same type of zampogna from Lazio, Abruzzi, Basilicata, and Calabria. This method is the result of several years study as a player as well as a student and teacher in several international course groups. In particular, the classes given by Piero Ricci from Isernia, the great and undisputed leader among pipers worldwide, who is an innovator in this field, classes with Giuseppe Belviso from Viggiano, who unfortunately died several years ago. It was he who passed on to me the Basilicata traditional repertoire. This method is both an evolution and a concise version of Ricci's written method, published in Utriculus the "Bagpipe circle" magazine. There are 15 progressively difficult exercises. From exercise number 10 on, the drone bass is supposed to be modified, as invented by Piero Ricci, so that it can play three notes instead of one. In order to play the Ricci modified zampogna two holes need to be made in the drone bass and to hold the instrument, from the very first exercise, pressing the left thumb behind it.
